Enrolment Scheme
The Ministry of Education has directed Ross Intermediate to implement an Enrolment Scheme to manage the school roll. The Board of Trustees agree and support this directive from the Ministry. The following document summarises our Enrolment Scheme and the process for enrolment.
The following Enrolment Scheme will be implemented from the approval date in 2009 and will affect enrolments for 2010.
HOME ZONE All students who live within the home zone described below:
All streets and portions thereof bounded by: • Rangitikei Line (SH3) from its intersection with Flygers Line to Tremaine Avenue. • Tremaine Avenue to North Street • North Street to Featherston Street • Back along Featherston Street to Carroll Street • Carroll Street to Grey Street • Grey Street to its intersection with Albert Street • Albert Street to Church Street • Church Street to its intersection with Ruahine Street • Ruahine Street to Fitzroy Street Bend, including numbers 497 and 508 • From Fitzroy Bend Reserve, along the Manawatu River to a point opposite the end of Koehlers Road • Koehlers Road and then a line from its intersection with Te Matai Road to the intersection of Napier road (SH3) and James Line • James Line to its intersection with Kelvin Grove Road • Kelvin Grove Road to the Roberts Line North intersection • Roberts Line North to its intersection with Richardsons Line • Richardsons Line to Milson Line, including Setters Line North (Setters Line West on some maps) • Milson Line to its intersection with Flygers Line • Flygers Line to Rangitikei Line (SH3)
Each year, application for enrolment in the following year will be sought from our Contributing Schools. Enrolment applications will be sought by the end of Term 3 so that the Board of Trustees can determine the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone. A second application date at the end of Week 8 Term 4 will also be advertised for parents that miss the Term 3 date.
ENROLMENTS In Term 3 Enrolment Packs will be sent out to all parents of Year 6 students in our Contributing Schools. We will also advertise our Open Evening and Enrolment details.
The Board of Trustees are confident that any student enrolling by the end of Term 3 will gain placement at Ross Intermediate School. Families enrolling in this time will receive confirmation of placement after the last day of Term 3.
On receipt of your enrolment you will be placed in one of the following five priorities:
AUTOMATIC ENTRY Enrolment within the Home Zone PRIORITY ONE Any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school (currently not applicable) PRIORITY TWO Any applicant who is a sibling of a current student at the school PRIORITY THREE Any student who is the sibling of a former student at the school PRIORITY FOUR Any applicant who is a child of an employee of the board of the school PRIORITY FIVE All other applicants. The Board of Trustees set the optimum roll at 460 students. Inclusive in this figure is the provision for up to 5 Ongoing Resource Funded Students (ORS).
On receipt of Enrolments the Board of Trustees will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the Home Zone.
The Board of Trustees may publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area serviced by the school. It will also be advertised on our website.
The notice may indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.
If there are more applicants in the first four priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.
Applicants seeking first or second priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling’s relationship.
