SNAP TV
SNAP TV is Ross Intermediate's very own TV Studio. From May 2010, we will be broadcasting 2 shows a week LIVE around our school! Each show will be 15 minutes in duration. These shows will also be available on our website and from August 2010, the shows will screen live on Tararua Television, the Manawatu's Regional TV Network.
The aim of SNAP TV is to introduce students to a new way of communicating information, through the media. The skills and collaboration required in putting together a TV show stimulate and engage students to use Higher Order Thinking. Using new learning technologies also motivates students to learn in new and exciting ways.
SNAP TV is a combination of pre-recorded and live material developed by a class along with their teacher and our Media Specialist, Robyn Peters. Robyn works with students from the class over a 2 week period to get their show prepared.
One of the main projects is a Feature Story on an area of interest in current events. The students select their stories with help from Robyn and then think about who they can approach to get information for their story. Our planned shows will include segments about teachers and staff, events and activities that are currently happening in the school and the wider community, interviews with local people of interest, and even poetry recitations.
This term (Term 2), we can look forward to shows from classrooms 12, 14, 3, 8, 10 and 13. Next term, we will see more from room 13 as well as 2, 7, 15, 11 and 9. In Term 4 room 9 will do their final shows and 5, 6, 1 and 4 will finish off the year.
