In September our Year 8 Netball team, Futsal team and individual event athletes will be representing Ross Intermediate at the AIMS Games - hosted out of Mt Maunganui, Tauranga. More than 11,500 competitors from 370+ schools will participate across 27 sports supported by 1800 Volunteers.

Geared up for the games!

Our AIMS Games contingent are geared up and fired up! They will depart at the end of this week to join over 12900 students from more than 390 schools for the games. Over the games we will be posting regular updates and photos - so stay tuned and join us in cheering on these young athletes!

Mount Maunganui!

The Ross Futsal team has arrived in Mt Maunganui in preparation for the AIMS Games starting Saturday. They have visited the competition venue, settled into their accommodation and taken a walk on the beach to stretch their legs.
Day one of competition
7 Sept 2024
Futsal:
Game One vs Otumoetai Intermediate. We kicked off the first game of the tournament, certainly carrying some nerves amongst the boys. After a shaky first half the boys slowly started to find some rhythm and came out on top 5-1.
Game Two vs Matamata Intermediate. With the boys knowing that Matamata Intermediate were so dominant in their first game, we went into it much more prepared. Matamata striked first to take the lead early but the boys really began to kick it up a gear scoring three goals in a matter of minutes. We came away with our second win of the tournament 5-2.
Game Three vs Opotiki Primary School. The third and final game of the day brought with it a top of the table clash. A dominant performance from the boys gave us a 12-2 victory to round out a successful day.
Liam Hadfield topped the scoring stats for Ross Intermediate with 8 goals and Sean O'Hagan produced two outstanding free-kicks in game three.
Netball:
The netball team began the drive to Tauranga this morning to get their tournament underway. After stopping at a few of the 'must-see' locations along the way they arrived in perfect timing to watch the futsal team play their second game. Following this they headed to their accommodation where they got set up and stretched their legs down at the beach.

Day two of competition
8 Sept 2024
Cross Country:
A beautiful scene at Waipuna park set the scene for our two year seven athletes this morning. Both girls gave their all on a very challenging course and can both be proud of their efforts. Chloe Viles placed 58th and Imogen Singleton placed 76th.
Gymnastics:
Our gymnasts competed today in their respective grades. With Brooke Kendrew (step four) and Marina Munford (step five) both experiencing the AIMS Games competition for the first time. Brooke placed 10th overall in her respective grade with her best apparatus placing her 5th in the floor event. Marina placed 18th overall in her respective grade with her best apparatus placing her in 4th in the vault event. An outstanding achievement from these two girls.
Swimming:
We had a record number of six swimmers begin their campaign today competing in their heats. Results to come.
Futsal:
Game One vs St Peter Chanel Catholic School. The boys continued their dominance in pool play taking the win 8-0.
Game Two vs St Pauls College. The final game of pool play saw the boys finish five from five winning 14-0 putting them into the top 16.
Game Three vs Hamilton Christian School. First game of the top 16 pool play saw the boys playing Hamilton Christian School and winning 7-0 continuing their momentum further into the tournament..
Netball:
Game One vs John Paul College. It was a great start to the netball competition with a dominating performance winning 34-4. A great start to the competition as they look to build on this with two more pool games tomorrow.

Day three of competition
9 Sept 2024
Netball:
Game One vs Kerikeri High School. After a successful start to the netball team's campaign, the team looked to continue to build as a team into day two of the netball competition. A tight game in some challenging winds saw us take the win 16-13.
Game Two vs St Pius X Catholic School. In our second game of the day our team enjoyed a comfortable win 27-12 and moved them through into the top 64 which is a great achievement thus far.
Futsal:
Game One vs Pukekohe Intermediate. In the boys second game of their top 16 pool we came up against Pukekohe Intermediate. The boys got into their work early, slotting early goals and never looked back taking the win 17-0. This sees the boys through to the top 8 with two games tomorrow. Go hard boys!
Swimming:
Day two of the swimming competition brought with it another eventful evening for our swimmers. Some outstanding results throughout the afternoon with a large number of personal bests for our athletes.

Day four of competition
10 Sept 2024
Futsal:
Game One vs Taradale Intermediate. The first game of the day for the futsal team saw them play their final round of 16 match in what was essentially a quarter final. The boys started slowly, conceding in the first half to make it 1-0 at the break. Taradale quickly went up again to make it 2-0 with not a lot of time left on the clock. We managed to sneak a goal in to make it 2-1 but it wasn't to be. We took our first loss of the tournament and meant that we would be playing off from 5th-8th.
Game Two vs Chisnallwood Intermediate. The boys had to dig deep for the second game of the day. They turned up, with a plan, and took a convincing win 4-1. This means that the boys will play Cobham Intermediate tomorrow at 1:20pm for 5th & 6th. We wish them all the best.
Thank you to the PNINS futsal team for coming out to support our team on a number of occasions. We know that the boys really appreciate the support.
Netball:
Game One vs Somerville Intermediate. The opening game of the netball on day three saw them play their first game of the top 64. After starting well and going up 8-1, spirits were high. However the team's second and third quarters let them down and let Somerville back into the game. In a tight battle in the fourth with the whole team digging deep they unfortunately lost 19-18.
Game Two vs Feilding Intermediate. Another competitive game was on the cards for our second game of the day. It was neck and neck again throughout the entire game with us falling short and losing back to back games by one point. 17-16.
Swimming:
It was the third and final day of the swimming competition for our six swimmers. Outstanding performance by Imogen Singleton swimming three personal bests from four races. Carter White swam a really strong 100 freestyle securing his place for juniors. The rest of our swimmers gave their all and they can all be very proud of their achievements and the times that they have come away with.

Day five of competition
11 Sept 2024
Futsal:
Game One vs Cobham Intermediate. The final day of competition saw the boys play off for 5th & 6th. A crushing performance from all the boys saw us take a 4-0 lead into halftime. The boys continued to dominate in the second half, with an impressive defensive mention to Sean O'Hagan who has been solid at the back throughout the entire game and tournament. We finished in 5th place only dropping one game throughout the tournament and only conceding eight goals.
Congratulations to our goalie Hayden Nanna who won the team's sportsmanship medal. Conceding only eight goals across ten games is amazing and even scoring one goal when in the outfield.
Netball:
Game One vs Pasadena Intermediate. After two tight losses yesterday the team came out firing in their first game of the day. An improved display of netball from our team across the court saw our team trailing by two for the majority of the game. However, Pasadena Intermediate ended up taking the win 27-21 stretching their lead in the fourth quarter.
Game Two vs Sancta Maria College. In our second game of the day the team was ready to show up and put on another strong performance. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that our team turned it up and pushed on to take the win 26-18 in what would be one of the best team performances thus far.

Day six of competition
12 Sept 2024
Netball:
Game One vs Whangarei Intermediate. A tight tussle for our opening game of the day saw us play a team of similar style to us. We strung together some lovely netball and had one of our better displays of shooting taking the win 23-20.
Game Two vs Berkley Normal Middle School. A physical encounter, the team fought hard and held their heads high but were defeated 34-10. As the week is drawing to an end we have a large number of tired bodies and a handful of injuries across the team. Our final game is at 9am where we will take on Hastings Intermediate.
Friday's event:

DAY SEVEN UPDATE
Final game against Hastings, it was a tough fought battle with lots of tired bodies. Unfortunately we couldn’t finish the tournament off with a win losing 15-13.
Well done for an amazing week team and a massive thank you to our coaches and supporters.
AIMS Games Wrap Up
What an incredible week it's been for Ross Intermediate at the 2024 AIMS Games! Over the course of seven days, 29 of our talented students competed in their chosen sport and represented our kura to the highest of standards.
A huge thank you goes out to our amazing coaches, whose guidance and support were invaluable. Their dedication to our students made all the difference, and we greatly appreciate all the hard work that went on behind the scenes.
