At the end of August our HopHop Dance troupe, Year 8 Netball team, Futsal team and individual event athletes will be representing Ross Intermediate at the AIMS Games, held in Tauranga Moana. More than 12,900 competitors from 390+ schools will participate across 27 sports.

Day Seven of Competition
5 September 2025
Final Day of Netball Competition
The final day of the netball competition featured both the semi-finals and finals, making it the biggest and most challenging day for the Ross team, who faced two crucial games.
Their first match at 12pm was a semi-final against a strong Maidstone side. Everyone knew that the winner of this game would likely go on to win the final, and the anticipation was high. The crowd gathered in numbers, and support poured in from back home in Palmerston North, with the game being livestreamed.
The Ross team came into the game focused and well-prepared, starting strong and taking an 8–3 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, the second quarter didn’t go to plan—only one goal was scored, and Maidstone surged ahead to lead 14–9 at halftime.
The second half was tightly contested, and at full time the scores were level, pushing the game into overtime, where a two-goal lead was required to secure victory. After a tense additional 12 minutes of back-and-forth play, Maidstone eventually came away with the win.
Full credit to the Ross team—they fought to the end, played outstanding netball, and can hold their heads high.
In their second game, playing for 3rd/4th place against Te Wharekura o Kirikiriroa, the Ross team were determined to finish on a high. From the first whistle, they dominated the match, showcasing their resilience and skill, and proudly brought home the bronze medal.

What an incredible week it’s been for Ross Intermediate at the 2025 AIMS Games! Over seven action-packed days, 31 of our talented students gave their all in both sports and performing arts, proudly representing our kura with determination, pride, and excellence.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our amazing coaches. Your guidance, encouragement, and behind-the-scenes dedication played a vital role in our students’ success. We deeply appreciate the time, energy, and passion you poured into this experience—it truly made all the difference.

Day Six of Competition
4 September 2025
Netball:
Game One vs Balmoral
Having already faced Balmoral in pool play and secured a convincing win, the team knew they couldn’t afford to be complacent. This was a new day, and another strong performance was needed. Ross started slowly, taking some time to find their rhythm. However, once the team settled, they began to take control. At halftime, Ross held a 15–7 lead. The second half saw a dominant display, with the team putting their foot down and dictating the game. They ran away with a commanding 31–9 victory.
Game Two vs Peachgrove Intermediate (Quarterfinal)
This was a must-win match to secure a spot in the semifinals—and it had everything: intensity, physicality, and fierce competition. Ross suffered an early setback, losing sharp-shooter Alex Sheary in the second quarter. Raiden Pehi stepped up into GA, and the team rallied together. At halftime, Ross held a narrow 14–12 lead. They came out firing in the third quarter, stretching the margin to 23–16. Maintaining composure in the final quarter, Ross sealed the win 26–19.
A tough semi final clash against Maidstone awaits at 8:00 AM on Friday.
Golf:
Zac Tarrant had an early 7.59am tee off in his third and final round of the golf competition. Today was Zac’s best day of the 3. Finishing 30th overall out of 73 competitors, Zac was very happy with his first Aims games experience. Well done Zac!

3 September 2025
Futsal:
Game One vs Omokoroa Point School. The final day of competition saw the boys play off for 17th & 18th. A strong performance from all the team saw us take a 4-0 lead into halftime. The team continued to dominate in the second half, with an impressive defensive mention to Llewellyn Oatway who has been solid at the back throughout the entire game and tournament. We finished in 17th with a final victory score of 9-2
Overall the team performed well, a few games did not go our way but the team showed great reliance and set upon a new goal which they worked hard to ensure they achieved. An excellent tournament by the team
Congratulations to our Llewellyn Oatway who won the team's sportsmanship medal. He showed consistent and solid defence throughout the tournament.
Netball:
Game one V Ashhurst School saw a complete dominating performance across the whole court saw the team post their highest score with a winning victory 51-1. We head into this evening's game with a must win to top our cross over pool.
Game two V Mission heights school, both teams were unbeaten going into this game. Ross focused on the task at hand and had a great warm up. The first half was very evenly contested with Ross down by 3. We came out firing in the 3 quarter to be up by 5 goals. A winning victory of 29-23. Another complete team performance.
Golf:
Day 2 of the golf competition, conditions were much better than yesterday, with blue sky and no winds. It was a rough start for Zac, but he settled into his swing and had a good finish on the back 9.

Day Four of Competition
2 September 2025
Futsal
The futsal team kicked off their day with a strong performance in their final Round of 32 match, which effectively acted as a quarter-final showdown. The team came out firing, setting the tone early with Chloe Rapata Martin opening the scoring following some impressive team build-up and sharp passing.
Maintaining momentum throughout the game, the team displayed discipline in defence and creativity in attack, keeping John Paul College scoreless. A dominant all-round performance saw them secure a convincing 6–0 victory and progress confidently to the next stage of the competition.
Game two V Brooklyn School ( Wellington). The team had to dig deep for the second game of the day. They turned up with a plan, and executed it well. Taking another convincing 6-0 win. This means the team will play their final game against Omokoroa Point school at 2.40pm
Netball
Game One vs Opotiki
The team kicked off day 3 of the AIMS campaign with a strong 33–13 win over Opotiki in gusty conditions at Mount Maunganui. Despite the challenging winds, the players delivered some impressive, free-flowing netball, showcasing great teamwork and resilience.
A special shoutout to the futsal team for their vocal support from the sidelines — it was fantastic to see the Ross teams backing each other!
Golf
Zac Tarrant tee off this afternoon at the Te Puke golf course, for his first AIMs games. The high winds made for a rather challenging day on the green. Zac finished with 23 over par and sitting in 38th place after round 1.
Swimming
It was the fourth and final day of the swimming competition for our two swimmers. Outstanding performance by Carter White and Dylan Oatway swimming strongly in their events and coming away with a number of personal best times. It was a james packed programme with a record number of swimmers this year and we are very proud of what our Ross boys achieved.

1 September 2025
Futsal
Game One vs Fairfield Intermediate
This was a crucial match, with a spot in the top 16 on the line. The game was tightly contested from the outset, with both teams creating opportunities but unable to convert. The score remained locked at 0-0 going into halftime. Unfortunately, Fairfield broke the deadlock with two quick goals late in the second half. Despite a determined effort, Ross couldn't find a way back into the game.
Final Score: Ross 0 – Fairfield 2
Game Two vs Omokoroa No. 1 School
Now competing for places 17–32, the team had to regroup quickly. Ross came out strong, scoring early and controlling much of the first half, heading into the break with a 2-1 lead. In the second half, goals from Ilyas and Cohen sealed a solid 4-2 victory, showcasing the team's resilience and attacking flair.
Final Score: Ross 4 – Omokoroa 2
Netball
The Netball team delivered two dominant performances today, overcoming challenging conditions to secure convincing wins. Blustery winds made shooting difficult, but the team showed excellent structure, discipline, and teamwork throughout both games.
Game One vs Waihi College
A strong start and consistent pressure saw Ross take control early, finishing with an impressive 37–7 victory.
Game Two vs Balmoral
Maintaining their momentum, the team continued to perform at a high level, securing a comfortable 33–4 win.
These results place the team in the Top 16 of the Open Division heading into Wednesday’s matches, where the level of competition is expected to step up.
Swimming:
Another good day in the pool Carter PB in the 200 Free 38th place and Dylan 200m Free PB and 200m breast PB and 19th place.

Hip Hop
The Ross Royals completed on Friday night and absolutely smashed their routines in the arena against 43 other schools from around NZ! So proud of their mahi and commitment!
Cross Country
A wet and soaky scene at Waipuna park set the scene as Chloe Viles completed in the Y8 Girls cross country. Placing 34th, and improving her time from last year by 50 seconds it was a fantastic performance in challenging conditions.
Swimming:
A successful day 1 in the pool for Carter White and Dylan Oatway. Carter swam 3 personal best times in his 3 events and Dylan 2 personal best times.
Futsal
Game one for the cross over saw the team playing John Paul. The intensity levels stepped up a notch but the team continued their dominance from pool play taking the win 8-1. Ilyas Wade netting 5 goals, Jayden de Vries scoring another double and one own goal
Game two V Bethlehem was a thriller, the team was down 1-0 at half time. Bethlehem came out in the second half and scored 2 quick goals. We were down 3-0 the comeback was on with ayden de Vries scoring two quick goals late in the second half but unfortunately were on the wrong side of the scoreboard going down 3-2.
Netball
Game One vs piopio was in wet and slippery conditions, the team made a great start to the netball competition with a dominating performance winning 46-0. They kept their structure and settled their nerves. A great start to the competition as they look to build on this with two more pool games tomorrow.
Opening Ceremony
We wrapped up Day Two with both our Netball and Futsal teams attending the AIMS Games Opening Ceremony. The evening was filled with high-energy live music, entertainment, and inspiring guest speakers—Dame Lisa Carrington, Dame Sophie Pascoe, and Noah Hotham—who each shared powerful stories from their sporting journeys. It was the perfect way to end a cold, wet day of competition on a high note.

Futsal
Game One: We kicked off the tournament with our opening match against Dilworth Intermediate, and there were definitely some nerves among the boys. The first half was a bit shaky as we found our footing, but as the game progressed, the team began to settle into a rhythm. By the final whistle, the boys had hit their stride and secured a solid 5–2 victory.
Goals by, Tommy Rudman getting a hat trick, Cohen Pinny taking the ball quickly and lobed the keeper from his own circle to expand the lead and Llewelyn’s great solo run down the middle to seal the win.
Game Two V Mt Maunganui the team had watched them earlier in the day so knew what they were up against. It was a fiery game, the team kept their cool, stuck to the game plan and came away with the victory 5-0. Jayden de Vries scoring a hat trick and Mohammad Hassani scoring a double, the team tops their pool. It was great having the support of both our Hip hop crew and Netball team at this game cheering the Futsal team on!
Netball
The netball team set off for Tauranga this morning to kick off their tournament journey. Along the way, they made a few stops at some must-see spots before arriving just in time to catch the futsal team’s second game. After the match, they headed to their accommodation to settle in and later took a stroll down to the beach to stretch their legs.
